Coaching for Newbie Marathon Runners

So, you’ve done it. Signed up for your very first marathon. Congratulations on taking this first step! You are up for the challenge, ready to get more fit and love the idea of the personal achievement you will gain along the way. However, now that the initial buzz has worn off and reality sets in, now you’re thinking, how am I actually… going… to… do… this?

Fear Not

Let’s fact it, running a marathon is not for the faint of heart. It takes commitment, dedication, time and pure guts. If it were easy, you wouldn’t be reading this right now. If you want to have a positive experience, you must prepare for it. How will you stay motivated? What time management techniques and strategies do you need to put in place in order to fit the training into your already packed schedule? What are you hoping to accomplish through your first marathon running experience?

There is no need to panic. Really. It’s scary to think about the training, the distance, the time commitment and oh yes, the pain! But, remember, plenty of people have gone before you and have successfully run 26.2 miles and actually lived to tell their tales. I am confident you will follow suit. The key is to get the support you need so that you can feel confident and fully prepared for the big day.

I know I can’t run the marathon for you, but I certainly can support you in your journey. As a certified life coach and personal trainer, I have first-hand experience in mentoring and leading newbie marathoners to the starting line. Having completed 10 marathons myself, I offer help with motivation, goal setting, time management, encouragement and the practicalities and know-how of what it takes to train for and run a marathon.

I offer a Marathon Newbies Package which can help you get to the starting line feeling confident, injury-free and both physically and mentally prepared for the day. I believe your personal journey leading up to the race is just as important if not more so than the race itself. You will learn so much about yourself as a runner and as a person.

  • Marathon Discovery Consultation - Initial one-hour prep consultation (in-person, telephone or skype)
  • Individualised 4- or 5-month training schedule designed especially for you
  • 2x 30-minute “keep on track” telephone or skype check-ins per month, over 5- or 6-month period
  • Customised, strategic plan for race day
  • Newbie Marathon Starter Pack
  • Access to additional tips, articles and other related resources as requested
  • Ongoing and unlimited email support throughout the duration of your training
